"Can Anyone Hear My Whistle Blow" chronicles the journey of School Psychologist, Rose Hamway, Ph.D., as she worked across the country in the American educational system. While believing in the promise, and witnessing the triumphs when students, parents, teachers, school administrators, and relevant community resources work together, all too often the system falls far short of this ideal.
Dr. Hamway draws back the curtains and shares intimate stories of a needless but ongoing battle to remove the barriers for children to learn and teachers to teach. She repeatedly exposed and fought the "educational malpractice" of the failed educational system, advocating for the needs and educational civil rights of some of the most vulnerable students, against the resistance and retaliation of the system. Through her efforts, knowledge, and experiences, Dr. Hamway offers a disturbing look at the often unseen and poorly understood problems and sometimes abuses that continue in American schools.
