I didn't get his question or carefulness. I didn't understand why he touched my cheek and smiled telling me I had pretty brown eyes. I didn't understand why he let me use his neon-green towel or gave me his flip flops or said he'd walk me home. I really didn't understand when he stopped on the bottom steps and didn't ask if he could come in, or, when I asked him to come inside he said no. Jack had homework to do and his mom expected him home by five. I didn't have curfew. I didn't have parents who watched the screen door and waited.
