In the articles of the present collection, Bernd Mahr develops a general theory of models which aims to explain the use of models in technology, science, and art. Mahr's basic idea is that something, conceived in a certain way, is judged to be a model "of something for something." Hence his general theory of models is based on a theory of conception, a context theory, and a theory of judgement.
