When a serious bike-riding accident leaves young Steven Somers in the hospital, a shocking revelation occurs--he possesses unusual psychic abilities. Somers is immediately given up by his family and enrolled in the Montana School for Psychic Development (MSPD). MSPD is a government-funded school whose purpose is to study and train children with remarkable psychic aptitude.
Upon his arrival at MSPD, Somers meets one of the school's cofounders, Dr. Jaye Olden. The two quickly form an exceptionally close bond, but when Somers turns sixteen years old, he must leave the school and attempt to return to a normal life.
