The Apocalypse of Peter is an example of popular early Christian literature. It was once a serious candidate for inclusion in the New Testament, and it was considered scripture by several ancient Christian authorities, but was lost to history for more than 1,500 years until it was rediscovery near the turn of the twentieth century.
