Families from Yugoslavia, Italy, Mexico, and many others came to America looking for a new life and landed in the small port community of San Pedro, California-considered one of the toughest, most irascible, and at times corrupt seaside port towns in the country. The immigrant parents fought to keep their children on track so they could thrive in their new country.
